Sync — land a clue on the hidden target

What is Sync?

Sync is a team-based party game built around a hidden target on a spectrum. The Psychic sees a target zone — say, between 'Hot' and 'Cold.' They give a single clue. Their team places a dial where they think the target is. Reveal. Score by how close they got.

It's a group telepathy puzzle. The clues get unhinged. 'A lukewarm Tuesday morning' is a real thing someone has said.

How to play

  1. 1Players split into two teams. Each turn, one person becomes the Psychic and sees a private spectrum (e.g. 'Underrated ↔ Overrated') with a hidden target zone.
  2. 2The Psychic gives one clue out loud. Their team debates and slides the dial to where they think the target sits. Lock it in.
  3. 3Reveal where the target actually was. Score 4 / 3 / 2 / 0 by how close you landed. The other team gets one chance to guess 'left or right' for a steal point. Swap roles. Play to a target score.

FAQ

Is Sync good for non-gamers?

Yes. There are no rules to memorize beyond 'give a clue, slide the dial.' Most groups are playing well by round two.

How many players is best?

Five to eight. Three on a team, plus a Psychic, gives you debate without analysis paralysis.

Can I play with three people?

It works with four minimum — the Psychic sits out their own round. Three is too few for the team-debate phase.

Is this Wavelength?

Sync is an in-browser rebuild of Wavelength, the original spectrum-clue party game by Wolfgang Warsch, Alex Hague, and Justin Vickers (CMYK). We're not affiliated with CMYK — if you love the mechanic, please buy the physical game to support the original designers. Full credits at /about#credits.
