Insider — one player knows the word. Find them.
What is Insider?
Insider is a two-layer social deduction game. The group has to guess a secret word by asking the Master yes/no questions. One player — the Insider — already knows the word and is steering the group toward it without getting caught.
If the group can't guess the word in time, everyone loses. If they guess it, they then have to figure out who the Insider was. Win-win for the Insider unless they get found out.
How to play
- 1Each phone privately shows a role: Master, Insider, or Commoner. The Master and Insider both see a secret word; the Commoners don't.
- 2Set a timer. The group asks the Master yes/no questions until someone guesses the word. The Insider is one of you — they'll try to nudge the group toward the word without standing out.
- 3Once the word is guessed, the table votes on who they think the Insider was. Reveal. The Insider wins if they survive the vote.
FAQ
How many players for Insider?
Four to ten. Five or six is the tightest — small enough to remember every question, big enough that the Insider can hide.
How is this different from Werewolf?
Werewolf is multi-night elimination. Insider is one round, one Insider, ten minutes. Faster onboarding, similar 'who lied?' satisfaction.
What if the group can't guess the word in time?
Everyone loses, including the Insider. That's the pressure that keeps the Insider helping — they need the group to win, but only just.
